Hydrogen-powered Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus Baja Boot previewed

Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus (SCG) has released two new images previewing its hydrogen-powered Baja Boot that it will eventually offer for road use.

Based on the SCG Zero Emission Hydrogen Fuel Cell Boot Pick-up Concept that was unveiled back in February, the latest pics show how the US car-maker will evolve the Baja Boot.

Featuring almost identical styling to the V8-powered version, the hydrogen ute keeps its petrol sibling's purpose-built racing design with prominent bash plate, steel bumpers, winch and powerful quad-headlight set-up.

There's also flared fenders, big wheel-arches, rock sliders and a set of racing wheels featuring all-terrain tyres. And up top there's a blinding roof-mounted LED light bar.

It's only from the side profile that you begin to spot the differences, chiefly the non-functional rear doors that feature an unusual circular indent.

That's a hint at what lies within, with SCG choosing to mount a pair of huge compressed hydrogen tanks behind both the driver and co-driver.

Supplemented by a third tank in the rear bed, SCG says its pick-up will have a target range of more than 600 miles (970km).

It's not known if the images released feature the road-going truck's powertrain or if SCG is previewing the set-up that it will use to compete in the annual Baja 1000.

If it's the latter, expect a fourth hydrogen tank to be employed to allow it to complete the entire 1000-mile (1600km) race without refuelling.
