Hyundai announces pricing for i30 Tourer
Small wagon to hit local market priced from under $23,000Hyundai has revealed that its i30 Tourer will be priced from $22,990 – not only undercutting its rivals, but also the entry-level variant of the superseded i30 cw.
As the importer outlined at the Australian International Motor Show (AIMS) last month, the new generation i30 Tourer will be powered by either a 1.6-litre GDI (direct-injected) petrol engine or a turbo-diesel, also displacing 1.6 litres. In the basic Active level of trim, both engines will be available with a standard six-speed manual transmission or optional six-speed automatic. Just one variant of the i30 Tourer Elite is available, powered by the diesel, with the automatic transmission fitted as standard.
The pricing ($22,990 for the Active petrol manual variant) is sharp indeed, when the i30 hatch is only $2000 cheaper – and isn't sourced from the Czech Republic, as the i30 Tourer is. The diesel option adds $2600 to the price of the petrol model and the automatic comes at a premium of $2000 for both engines. The i30 Tourer Elite is priced at $31,190, which is $3600 more than the top-ranked variant in the Active grade, the diesel auto model.
The Gamma petrol engine produces 99kW and 164Nm, while the diesel is good for 94kW and 260Nm. Built on the same wheelbase as the i30 hatch, the Tourer is 185mm longer and will accommodate 528 litres of luggage – a 150-litre gain over the hatch.
Hyundai plans to launch the i30 Tourer early next year, and admits that the specifications of the two grades will be similar, but not identical, to the hatchback counterparts. More will be revealed closer to the launch, but the importer has declared its hand where safety is concerned. Vehicle Stability Management, electronic stability control, traction control, anti-lock brakes, Brake Assist, electronic brake force distribution and seven airbags will be standard across the range.
Speaking with motoring.com.au at AIMS last month, Hyundai Australia's Director of Marketing, Oliver Mann, would not indicate how many of the i30 Tourer the importer would sell in Australia, other than suggesting its share of total i30 sales would be similar to that of the i30 cw as an element of the previous generation i30 range – between 20 and 23 per cent of the total. Mr Mann also suggested that the landed cost of the i30 Tourer in Australia has improved out of sight since the demand from economically depressed markets in Europe had begun to decline.
