Hyundai at the 'Ring
Korean firm to establish permanent test facility at 'The Green Hell'Hyundai is spending AUD $7 million on the development of a new vehicle test centre at Germany's famed Nürburgring track.
Long the favoured place to test new vehicles for high-speed handling, the Nordschleife (the northern loop) of the Nürburgring track is also a convenient venue to pick low-hanging fruit if you're a professional spy photographer.
Hyundai claims that the test centre, which is already under construction, is a sign of the company's commitment to growth in European markets, where it already designs and builds cars.
"The new Hyundai test centre at Nürburgring is an expression of our intention to focus on improving the customer experience of our vehicles, such as ride and handling – an important consideration for European drivers," said Allan Rushforth, Senior Vice President and COO of Hyundai Motor Europe, as quoted in a press release.
"The new centre represents a significant investment, and one we expect will significantly contribute to enhancing the perception of the Hyundai brand and our key competitive competence in Europe."
Last year Hyundai sold 444,000 vehicles in European markets and, of those, 95 per cent had been designed and tested at the company's main development facility, in Rüsselsheim, Germany. Measuring 3050 square metres, the new centre at the Nürburgring will be essentially an annex of Rüsselsheim.
