Hyundai Bluelink smartphone app coming soon

Korean brand to bring dozens of vehicle-related functions, features and alerts to your fingertips

Hyundai has become the latest car-maker to develop its own smartphone app and accompanying connected-car services and in this case it will be labelled Hyundai Bluelink.

Due to be launched in Australia in the third quarter of this year alongside the facelifted Hyundai Palisade large SUV, Hyundai Bluelink will gradually spread its way across the Korean brand’s entire portfolio and be available for all of its future models.

Similar to Ford’s proprietary FordPass app, Hyundai customers will have an abundance of features at their fingertips including vehicle status, health, location, security, remote climate control, advanced navigation and SOS emergency assistance, among a host of other functions.

What’s more, the system will send a notification to the owner’s phone if an issue is detected, with those issues ranging from simple things like an open window or unlocked door through to a dodgy battery, low tyre pressures, worn brake pads and even a break in or theft.

In the event of the airbags being deployed, the system will automatically contact emergency services – occupants can also do this manually via the SOS button in the cabin.

One particularly nifty feature is the ‘Last Mile Navigation’ function that lets users continue the in-car route guidance on their smartphone after parking if they can’t drive right up to the desired destination.

Hyundai Motor Company Australia chief executive officer Ted Lee said the Blulink app will make owning a Hyundai safer and help customers stay connected with their new cars.

“With the rollout of Hyundai Bluelink, we are firmly on track to realise our goal of delivering the super-connected mobility solutions of the future,” he said.

“Bluelink makes owning a Hyundai … more convenient and more rewarding.

“With Bluelink now it’s easier than ever for customers to stay connected to their Hyundai.”

An example of this newfound connectedness is the transferable driver profile settings. Driver profiles are far from a new thing for modern vehicles, but few of them have the ability to be transferred from one vehicle to another.

Bluelink stores a user’s preferred vehicle settings in a specially developed Cloud platform.

The catch is that the app won’t be backwards compatible, meaning an MY23 Palisade owner won’t be able to jump into an MY22 IONIQ 5 and download/install their drive preferences; none of the functions will be applicable, but the driver will obviously still be able to keep tabs on their own car.

“The introduction of Bluelink marks a step change on Hyundai’s mission to create smart mobility solutions and a better future for everyone,” HMCA said in a statement.

“With Bluelink, Hyundai vehicles are no longer just a means of transport. Now, they’re mobile computers connected to wireless networks that provide the gateway to a super-connected intelligent lifestyle.”
