Hyundai will build on its acknowledged strength in small car product design and marketing when it introduces the i20 to Australia during the third quarter of this year. The new car, which we first reported was under active consideration for Australia back in October last year (more here), will fill a tight niche between the Getz light car and the i30 small car.
"Getz is still very much part of our model range," Hyundai Media Specialist Stephen Howard told the Carsales Network. "The i20 will be positioned between Getz and the i30."
For the present, Hyundai is tight-lipped about the specification for the new car, but does hint that the new car will be a leader in its segment for its technology and features. Attractively styled by a team at Hyundai's European styling studio at Russelsheim in Germany, the new car will also embrace the 'i' prefix marketing nomenclature introduced with the i30.
Australian punters will get their first close-up look at the i20 on the Hyundai stand at this year's Melbourne Motor Show.
