Hyundai Genesis Coupe to ditch turbo four?

Speculation points to an end for the four-cylinder turbo engine in next-gen rear-drive Genesis coupe
An anonymous tip to fan site thekoreancarblog.com – complete with supporting image – will have enthusiasts on tenterhooks as they anticipate the arrival of the turbocharged four-cylinder Hyundai Genesis coupe in Australia.
What appears to be a snapshot taken from production planning documentation shows the 2.0-litre turbocharged engine discontinued in the coupe from the 2015 model year, which is understood to be the final update for the current model. The next generation of Genesis will be engineered for right-hand drive, and it's this car slated to be sold in Australia. If the decision to drop the turbo four in the final production year for the current car is carried over into the new model, it will leave just one engine variant, powered by a 3.8-litre V6.
The leaked document has been interpreted in different ways by punters and those closer to Hyundai. It has been suggested the current turbo four will be replaced by a powerplant developed from new architecture for the post-2015 model. Alternatively, Hyundai may elect to make the new Genesis V6-only and bolt the 2.0-litre turbo engine into the Veloster instead.
The leak has been corroborated, according to American industry journal, Automotive News, in a report quoting Hyundai spokesman Derek Joyce. V6 variants for 2015MY will run the full spectrum of trim levels to offset the cessation of the lower-priced turbo models in the current range.
"We will accommodate the full range of Genesis Coupe buyers by repackaging equipment to meet everything from an entry-level buyer to a fully-loaded buyer," Joyce said.
