Hyundai grabs the concept
Hyundai showed off its best looking hatch yet at Melbourne...Cop a load of this! Hyundai's Accent SR Turbo may be strictly a concept car at this stage, but it is very much a sneak peek at the Korean brand's near future.
A popular unveiling at the Melbourne show, the SR hints (strongly) at the next Hyundai World Rally Car which debut in mid-2007 for a tilt at the 2008 WRC season. It is the work of the maker's European Design Studio in Russelsheim, Germany.
Based on the three-door hatch variant of the coming new generation MC Accent, SR has all the hot hatch styling cues and is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo four of undisclosed output. Chromed 18-inch alloy wheels fill the flared guards and lowered sports suspension (struts up front and a new semi-independent torsion twist beam at the rear), a heavily sculptured rear valance and big twin trapezoid tailpipes all look the business.
New Hyundai Australia CEO Steve Yeo also unveiled the new Grandeur executive saloon at the show, confirming at the same time that that the maker would unveil another three all-new models in 2006.
