Hyundai i30 claims affordability crown
Korean car the cheapest of Australia's top-10 most popular cars to own and runRAC clubs around Australia recently named the tiny Suzuki Celerio as the most affordable new car to own and run in this country, but Hyundai is claiming a more meaningful prize.
Based on the findings from the NRMA's running costs calculator, Hyundai boasts that its i30 small car is the most affordable new car in the national top-10 sales charts to own and run, edging out the Volkswagen Golf for the prize.
In other words, of the cars that Aussies are buying in droves, it's the most affordable in the long-run.
According to the NRMA's figures the $21,990 i30 ActiveX automatic costs $156.90 per week to run, a number that includes costs such as servicing, insurance, fuel, tyres maintenance, repairs, registration and crucially depreciation.
The Hyundai i30 was more affordable to own and run than the likes of the Volkswagen Golf, Mazda3, and somewhat surprisingly the Toyota Corolla.
The figures are based on a 55-year-old buyer who plans on owning the vehicle for five-years.
"Obviously, we're delighted that the i30 has come out on top in the NRMA's important running cost calculations of Australia's best-selling cars," said John Elsworth, Hyundai Motor Company Australia's chief operating officer.
The Hyundai i30 has amassed 18,551 sales so far in 2015, trailing the Mazda3 (23,252) and Toyota Corolla (25,323), but for the month of June the i30 was Australia's top-selling new car, and managed second place in July.
Elsworth notes that the latest findings will justify the car's surge in popularity.
"The i30 is a firm favourite with Australian new-car buyers, and these outstanding real-world figures resoundingly endorse their choice," he observed.
The least efficient vehicle in the current top 10 best-sellers list is the Holden Commodore, which costs a bit over $250 per week to own and run.
