We first told you about the Hyundai i30 back in February (more here ).
A pre-production version of the car (pictured) has been undergoing hot-weather testing in Australia and the company has 'shopped' its own car to the press.
Local testing is a sign of the i30's importance to Hyundai Australia, which has penciled in an October launch date for the car. Hatches in the Australian small car segment sell better than sedan equivalents, so the i30 is a significant new model release for the Korean company.
Hyundai is effectively targeting two different demographics with the i30 and the Elantra, even though they are alike in dimensions and will sell in the same segment.
Sharing the floorpan with the current Elantra sedan, the i30 nonetheless embraces a more European aesthetic than the Elantra.
"Shaped in our German styling studio, the new i30 will combine highly contemporary design with Hyundai's outstanding quality and value", said Kevin McCann, Hyundai's Sales and Marketing Director.
