Hyundai IONIQ 5 N gets naughtier drift mode

Hyundai has already set about updating the rabid IONIQ 5 N, gifting the monstrous EV a series of new software tweaks intended to make it even better to drive and easier to live with.

Starting with the fun stuff, the Korean-spec MY25 Hyundai IONIQ 5 N has scored an enhanced N Drift Optimiser which now offers an incredible 10 levels of assistance, with 10 essentially leaving the driver to their own devices.

The system is said to also better detect the conditions at hand and adapt accordingly.

Another new piece of kit is the Downshift Memory which “allows the vehicle to store commands without shifting and shift when the vehicle reaches the allowable engine revs for downshifting”.

Other changes include the N Active Sound+ system activating automatically when launch control is selected, a new anti-dazzle function for the automatic high beam system and automatic walk-away lock function.

Vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability is also activated as part of the MY25 upgrades, while safety has been enhanced by safety glass being used in the rear windows (less likely to break or shatter in a crash) and a new haptic steering wheel linked to the driver assist systems.

Hyundai Australia is yet to confirm when or if the upgrades will be applied to local cars, let alone if they’ll add to the IONIQ 5 N’s existing $111,000 asking price.
