Hyundai ix35 is nigh
Replacing the Tuscon compact 4WD, the ix35 will be shown at Frankfurt next monthHyundai has released a couple of tantalising sketches of its ix35, the vehicle that will replace the Tucson.
Scheduled to be unveiled at the '09 Frankfurt motor show, the Hyundai ix35 is a compact SUV that will be powered by both petrol and diesel engines.
Hyundai Australia hopes to have the ix35 on sale in Australia in the first half of 2010, and will give the current compact 4WD kings, such as the Toyota Rav4 and Subaru Forester, a far more serious rival than the Tuscon.
Hyundai Australia's Sales and Marketing Director Kevin McCann was very upbeat about the ix35, stating that it will attract a new type of customer.
"ix35 has the potential to develop a slightly different sales base for us. Its sleek European lines will appeal to buyers looking for style and sophistication; people whose choice of car is a statement not only of who they are, but what their lifestyle represents -- freedom, fashion and elegance.
"We can't wait to have the new models out in dealer showrooms," added McCann.
The ix35 is Hyundai's first SUV to be designed and engineered in Europe. The idea was born at the company's Frankfurt-based design centre and shows off Hyundai's new 'fluidic sculpture' design language last seen on the ix-onic concept from the '09 Geneva motor show.
Designed and engineered in Europe, the ix35 will be a crucial vehicle for Hyundai in that region, where the company has gained a lot of ground with its diesel SUVs.
"SUVs have been a cornerstone of our success for many years and have helped to raise awareness of the Hyundai brand in Europe," says Allan Rushforth, Vice-President of Hyundai Motor Europe.
Sitting alongside the Hyundai ix35 at the Frankfurt motor show will be a new-look Santa Fe, powered by a new generation diesel engine, boasting a subtle restyle and riding on a new suspension rig.
