New-car buyers who are considering an electric vehicle and who like supporting good causes have the opportunity to do both next week thanks to the JOY Media Money Can’t Buy Auction.
The unique auction is free to attend either virtually or in person (registration is required in both cases) on September 14, when participants will have the chance to bid on a 2022 Hyundai Kona Electric Elite Standard Range valued at $54,500 plus on-road costs.
A plethora of other cool items are also up for grabs, and proceeds will fund JOY Media’s upcoming expansion and community projects.

For anyone not familiar with the Kona Electric Elite Standard Range, it’s Hyundai’s entry-level electric SUV and is powered by a 100kW/395kW electric motor that draws power from a 39.2kWh lithium-ion battery pack.
The claimed range is 305km and while it may be the base model in the Kona Electric range, it’s far from sparse given it’s based on the mid-range Kona Elite trim level and comes standard with 17-inch alloys, a 10.25-inch infotainment touch-screen with smartphone mirroring and satellite-navigation, 10.25-inch digital cockpit, leather-appointed trim, an eight-speaker Harman/Kardon sound system, climate control and more.
Other items up for auction include a dining experience for eight people with Melbourne Lord Mayor Sally Capp in her private dining rooms at Melbourne Town Hall, a balcony room on P&O Cruises’ Pride Cruise, a dining and cooking experience with chef Paul Le Noury and a painting by Indigenous Australian Artist Ande K Terare, among other things.

“As we step into our new era of JOY Media, we are running our first ever fundraising auction to ensure the ongoing growth of our organisation and secure the stability of JOY for years to come,” event organisers said.
The auction itself will take place at the Victorian Pride Centre from 6:30pm AEST on September 14.
JOY Media is a volunteer-run not-for-profit LGBTIQA+ media organisation delivering community news and content “every hour, every day of the year” for the past 29 years.
