Hyundai has released a new video that stars a camouflaged version of its all-new, second-generation Veloster hatch.
The short teaser, posted overnight, was created in part to preview the raucous sound the Korean rival for the Volkswagen Golf GTI makes on full throttle.
Set to once again be an asymmetrical four-door hatch – there are two doors to access the cabin on the passenger side – the version teased here has large twin exhaust outlets that suggest it is the flagship Veloster N developed by Hyundai's performance division.
That means it's likely to come equipped with the 202kW/353Nm 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol from the i30 N Performance.
With that sort of power, the fastest Veloster should hit 100km/h in around six seconds and top out at more than 250km/h.
To help it remain stable at high speeds, Hyundai N has developed a unique aero package for the performance flagship that is likely to incorporate an additional rear wing and large underbody diffuser.
Other changes possible to see, despite the camo's best efforts, is a huge front grille that will dominate the next Veloster's design, while the slim headlights include LED elements within the lamps.
Look closer and you'll be able to see the Veloster's rakish front screen, coupe-like roofline and flared wheel-arches.
Beneath the skin, the Veloster is based on a platform that's shared with the latest i30 and Elantra. The fastest versions are expected to come with adaptive dampers and an electronically controlled front differential to help it put the power down efficiently.
As well as the powerful N version, lesser versions will come powered with a smaller, more efficient 1.4- and 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engines.
Both a six-speed manual and seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmissions will be offered.
Inside, new tech introduced to the Veloster is rumoured to include a revised head-up display, adaptive cruise control and a more advanced lane departure warning system.
The new video suggests the Korean car-maker will unveil its stylish and sporty take on a hatch on January 5, not long before it goes on sale in early 2018.
Back in 2016, Hyundai was caught testing a prototype version of its RM16 N concept that sparked wild rumours that it was going to evolve the hatch-based Veloster into a Porsche Cayman rival.
Those plans, sadly, have been put on ice as evidenced by this latest teaser.
