Hyundai has released new interior and exterior renderings of its all-new Ioniq hybrid ahead of its launch at the end of this month in Korea.
Thanks to our spy photographers, we’ve already seen the fully undisguised Ioniq being shot for its big budget ad campaign but the new interior image gives us our first glimpse of how the hybrid’s cabin is shaping up.
Said to be made of “eco-friendly” materials, the interior doesn’t appear to move the game on. It looks clean, logical and very conventional and a lot less futuristic than the Toyota Prius.
Set to be priced from just $35,000, the new hybrid should arrive in Australian dealerships during the second half of 2016.
Claimed to be the first ever car to be offered with three ultra-low emission powertrains in one body type, the Ioniq will be offered as a petrol electric hybrid, a plug-in hybrid and as a pure-electric vehicle.
Sticking to the hybrids, the Korean car-maker says the aim for the Ioniq is for it to have the “world’s best hybrid fuel efficiency”.
For this to be achieved it must beat the Prius. To do that the Hyundai is expected to come with a smaller 1.6-litre petrol engine, instead of the Toyota’s 1.8, and the Ioniq could use more powerful lithium ion batteries instead of the Prius’ Nickel-metal hydride cells.
More information is expected following its unveil later this month at a special event in Korea. The Ioniq will make its public debut a few months later in March at the Geneva motor show.
