Hyundai Australia has announced it will extend the new car warranties of thousands of Aussie vehicles to help owners comply with coronavirus measures.
In a bid to promote isolation and quarantine measures in place across the country, Hyundai says current owners whose five-year factory warranties expired between March 1 and May 30, 2020, will have their provisions extended until May 31, 2020.
All told, the warranty extension will apply to 27,000 Australian vehicles, theoretically providing owners with more time to get to their dealers for warranty-related repairs.
The Australian announcement is part of a global Hyundai edict that applies to more than 1.21 million vehicles. All Hyundai passenger vehicles are covered, but the commercial Hyundai iLoad is not.
“We appreciate that many of our customers may have limited access to vehicle servicing during these extraordinary times,” said Jun Heo, Hyundai Australia chief executive.
“With Hyundai C A R E, we wish to set their minds at ease regarding eligibility for warranty repairs and related services in the coming months. Not only do we care about our customers’ health and safety, we aim to remove the added stress where customers are unable to have repairs completed before their vehicle’s warranty expires.”
Hyundai Motor Company Australia will contact all affected customers separately in the coming days with more details about the Hyundai C A R E program.
Kia, Hyundai's sister company, will not be altering its Australian warranties for the time being. That's because Kia owners whose seven-year new vehicle warranties are still intact are covered until at least October 2021.
