Hyundai's compact coupe spied

New spy photography of the Hyundai Veloster reveals a strong family resemblance to the i45

The Hyundai Veloster unveiling is getting closer, with the all-new entry-level coupe expected to be shown for the first time on October 2 at the opening of the Paris motor show in France.

Today we've got more spy photos of the compact sports car riding on production-quality alloy wheels, suggesting that testing of the vehicle is going into overdrive ahead of its market introduction. It also shows off more of the front end, a stylised central-mount exhaust system at the rear, and a variety of sensory equipment connected to all four wheels.

Could an all-wheel drive system be on the cards for the new 2+2 coupe?

With more of the Veloster's front end revealed courtesy of Carparazzi's sneaky spies, it's clear that Hyundai's new-look grille seen on the i45 is in residence on the new compact coupe, and though partially covered, the headlight design appears to stay close to the i45's sleek styling.

With a sporty and sleek style almost guaranteed thanks to a sloping rear end, the entry-level coupe is expected to get a couple of four-cylinder engines to suit different buyer demographics.

The first engine is likely to be a frugal 1.6-litre direct injection GDI petrol powerplant, while a more powerful 2.0-litre GDI petrol unit is also a possibility.

There is even talk that the new Hyundai Veloster will be offered with turbocharged versions of the abovementioned engines, which could output up to 135 kilowatts of power. Let's just hope the chassis is up to it!
