i-MiEV commitment maintained
Mitsubishi boss rejects reports of electric car's demiseMitsubishi has fired back at news stories published this week predicting the Australian demise of the i-MiEV electric car – including this piece on motoring.com.au.
In a statement issued late yesterday afternoon, Mitsubishi Motors Australia CEO Mutsuhiro Oshikiri said: “Mitsubishi believes the future of electric vehicles is bright and we are proud to offer Australians the opportunity to purchase their own EV and make the choice towards a greener future.”
“We are looking towards the future and getting ready for our next step in electric vehicle technology, the PHEV.”
The all new Outlander PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) is the world’s first plug in SUV, due in Australia in mid-2013.
Mr Oshikiri pointed to an expansion of sales outlets from nine specialist dealerships to a larger number of Mitsubishi dealerships, beginning in December 2012.
Since then 70 dealers have ordered 81 i-MiEVs, bringing total sales since it went on sale here in 2010 to 250.
Motoring.com.au reported that Mitsubishi had no plans to import further stock of the i-MiEV from Japan unless there was demand. The statement issued today by MMAL did not attempt to contest that.
