Volkswagen design chief Luc Donckerwolke, who’s headed up Lamborghini, SEAT and more recently Bentley, has left Europe's biggest car-maker without citing any reasons.
Donckerwolke, 49, has been Bentley’s design chief since 2012 and recently hit the headlines in March, after publicly criticising Lincoln Continental designer, David Woodhouse.
In the attack using his personal Facebook account, Donckerwolke launched a sarcastic tirade against Woodhouse, accusing him of plagiarism.
“Do you want us to send you the product tooling?” Donckerwolke asked Woodhouse after noticing striking similarities with the Continental ‘his’ Bentley Flying Spur.
Donckerwolke will be seen as a huge loss for the British luxury car brand and is highly respected in the industry after he penned the Audi R8 Le Mans, Lamborghini Murcielago and Gallardo, and the more recent SEAT Tribu SUV concept.
VW Group has already named his replacement as Stefan Sielaff, 53, who has worked for Audi, Daimler-Chrysler and Volkswagen.
