Daihatsu has shown off its rival for the Nissan JUKE at this week's Indonesian motor show.
Called the FX concept, the new small crossover was created -- according to the Japanese brand -- to be “tough enough to stand up to the rigours of off-road running”.
Measuring in at 3800mm long, 1690mm wide and 1580mm tall, and with a 2455mm wheelbase, the new Daihatsu will also be a natural rival for the budget friendly Renault Kwid that will also soon be offered in emerging markets.
Not expected for production is the concept’s suicide doors or wacky dash that includes a virtual dash and infotainment system embedded on the passenger side out of reach of the driver.
Like the FT Concept also revealed at the Indonesian show, the FX is based on an unusual, for the segment, rear-wheel drive platform that’s thought to have been adapted from the old Terios SUV architecture.
For the concept Daihatsu is keeping tight-lipped on what exactly powers the FX other than revealing it is a petrol engine with a 1.2-litre capacity.
It’s not known if the production version of the FX will be offered in other markets outside of Europe but it's unlikely to make it here following Daihatsu’s withdrawal from the Australian market back in 2006, and Toyota's plans to produce a different compact SUV for mature markets like Australia.
