Infiniti has held prices where they were for the updated Q70 sedan, which the prestige importer revealed to local motoring press today.
Mildly tweaked cosmetically, the Q70 also gains extra equipment – mostly advanced active safety technology – and changes to the suspension for a gentler ride quality.
The new 'Safety Shield' systems incorporated are Lane Departure Prevention, Blind Spot Intervention, Forward Emergency Braking, Predictive Forward Collision Warning and Backup Collision Intervention. These features join existing active safety features such as intelligent cruise control, lane departure warning, blind spot warning and distance control assist. These are all standard on the S Premium and GT Premium models, but not the entry-level Q70 GT.
Other new features include Around View Monitor with corner parking sensors/moving object detection/parking guidance, and Adaptive front lighting system with headlight washers. As for the safety features listed above, these are standard for the two higher grade variants, but not the Q70 GT.
In addition to the new mesh grille, which aligns the Q70 closer to the smaller Q50, the updated Q70 also scores body-colour exterior mirrors with LED turn signals, LED auto-level headlights/daytime running lights and LED tail lights right across the range. The Q70 GT also comes equipped as standard now with a 10-speaker BOSE audio system and both the GT and GT Premium variants now ride on new 18-inch alloy wheels, in a 10-spoke design.
Fans of the diesel V6 GT variant will be disappointed to learn that the V9X engine is no longer “earmarked for development” and has been pulled from the Q70 range, effective from the update model's launch. Infiniti plan to ditch this engine in the QX70 SUV as well.
The Q70 soldiers on with petrol power in the form of a 3.7-litre VQ37 V6 (235kW, 360Nm, 10.2L/100km) for the Q70 GT and S Premium. For the hybrid-drive Q70 GT Premium, a 3.5-litre VQ35HR V6 (225kW, 350Nm, 6.9L/100km) is supplemented by a 50kW/290Nm electric motor for total combined output of 268kW and 546Nm. All variants drive through a seven-speed Jatco automatic transmission.
According to Bernard Michel, Product Planning Manager for Infiniti Cars Australia, the target buyer for the Q70 is over 55, white collar, male-skewed, earning between $150,000 and $200,000, and “looking for something different”.
Prices for the Q70 start from $68,900 for the GT variant and rise to $78,900 for the Q70 S Premium, topping out at $82,900 for the hybrid GT Premium.
Q70 buyers are protected by a four-year/100,000km warrant and service intervals are spaced at 12 months/10,000km.
