Ingenium-powered Range Rover Sport on the way

New entry-level variant with 2.0-litre diesel brings a lower starting price when it arrives early 2017

Jaguar Land Rover Australia will price its new entry-level variant of the Range Rover Sport at a very competitive price – $90,900 – when the four-cylinder model goes on sale here during the second quarter of next year.

Powered by Jaguar Land Rover's 2.0-litre Ingenium four-pot turbo-diesel, the new base-grade variant lowers the entry point marginally, replacing the TDV6 S variant – currently priced at $91,800.

According to JLR, this is the first time the advanced, fuel-saving engine has put in an appearance under the bonnet of a 'full-sized' Land Rover SUV. Engine output for the twin-turbo (sequential) mill is rated at 177kW and 500Nm. Boasting a combined-cycle fuel consumption figure of 6.2L/100km, the Ingenium engine is lighter than the 3.0-litre TDV6 engine it effectively replaces, but delivers similar performance in the aluminium-bodied Range Rover Sport, the manufacturer claims.

The broader Range Rover Sport line-up for 2017 is also embracing new features, including Advanced Tow Assist, which is pioneered in the Range Rover SVAutobiography Dynamic and essentially is an autonomous driving mode while reversing a trailer. Other new features for the Range Rover Sport consist of Autonomous Emergency Braking, Low Traction Launch and Blind Spot Assist, which will steer a vehicle back into its lane if the system detects a vehicle in the target lane.

In the cabin, the Range Rover Sport will feature a new 10-inch touch screen (InControl Touch Pro) for the infotainment system. New apps bundled with the infotainment system are available for music playback, contacts and calendars, in coordination with a connected smartphone.

A single pair of exhaust pipes will distinguish the four-cylinder Rangie Sport from its V6 and V8 siblings. Styling details have been revised for the Range Rover Sport Dynamic – with gloss black finish applied to the redesigned radiator grille, the side vents, bonnet vents, mirror caps and Range Rover legend on the bonnet and tailgate. The Dynamic level of trim is set apart from other Range Rover Sport models by a red 'Sport' badge and red brake callipers.

"Range Rover Sport is the ultimate performance SUV and the latest model enhances its luxury status and desirability. The design developments sit seamlessly alongside innovative new technologies, making Range Rover Sport more composed, sustainable and relevant than ever," says Gerry McGovern, Land Rover's Chief Design Officer.
