Hyundai IONIQ 5 speedster teased – sort of

Hyundai has shrunken its radical 45 EV Concept to create a therapeutic rideable toy car for young patients at SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital.

After earlier this year announcing that the 2019 Frankfurt motor show concept will directly inspire the forthcoming 2021 Hyundai IONIQ 5, the Korean car-maker has released pictures and video of the toy 45 EV that loses its roof in the conversion.

Not that its miniature brother has skimped on the tech for the Spanish hospital.

According to Hyundai, the 45 toy features its latest Emotion Adaptive Vehicle Control (EAVC) tech that can read facial expressions while monitoring both heart and respiration rates.

Responding to a child's behaviour, the toy car can use its lighting, sound system and fragrance dispenser while communicating through a small infotainment screen ahead of the steering wheel.

Donating the small, rideable Hyundai 45 to the Barcelona's Children's Hospital, Hyundai says the little EV will be used to transport young patients around the hospital from their beds to treatment rooms, with the toy car claimed to reduce stress and anxiety of those riding on it.

"We want our technology to help improve the lives of our customers in various mobility spaces beyond the roads," said Jinmo Lee, senior research engineer at Hyundai.

"We hope the EAVC technology on the minicar will provide a fun, safe mobility experience for young patients and help improve their health outcomes."

Incredibly, while on the move, the minicar displays green, yellow or red lights below it to reflect their child' emotions in real time when they're behind the wheel, enabling staff to respond.

As well as the fragrance dispenser, other fun kid-friendly features include an on-board bubble machine.
