Here's one for game fans that just can't get enough power from squeezing the life out of the controllers that came with the game platform.
Flypad from Orthogonal Labs, Inc allows fans of PC based driving games to utilise the gyro and accelerometer features of their Apple smartphone to steer their on screen car.
Flypad adds in swipe and slide controls to the user interface so all the car commands are within thumb reach. Currently Flypad is compatible with Need For Speed: The Run and DiRT 3 for the PC.
Using the iPhone’s 3D controls allows the team to develop compatibility for a number of other game genres; the team from Orthogonal Labs is planning to provide support for Microsoft Flight Simulator as well as other popular racing games such as Trackmania and Flatout
In a reassuring road safety move, there are no current plans to replace the real-life car steering wheel with the Flypad application.
