What could be the 2025 Tesla Model Q has been spotted lurking in broad daylight at Giga Texas.
With the facelifted Model Y now in production, the presence of a masked prototype has stirred up a flurry of speculation that we’re actually looking at the upcoming Model Q which is set to make its global debut in the first half of this year.
The images were captured by Tesla enthusiast and drone operator Joe Tegtmeyer during a February 12 fly-over of the expanding Giga Texas site after he spotted the dark silhouette and went in for a closer look.
It’s hard to confirm exactly what we are looking at given the black veil messes with our sense of scale and proportion, but Tegtmeyer has zero doubt this is some sort of Model Y, even though we already know the Model Q will closely resemble the best-selling mid-sized SUV.
Tegtmeyer noted the body seems to feature the pre-facelift hatch design and that the dash is completely covered over, suggesting Tesla isn’t quite ready for the world to see what’s going on, not that there are too many options.
The Model Q will be built using a new advanced production method in which far fewer parts are required than the Model Y and related Model 3, especially for the dashboard and interior.
That would explain why the dash is covered as well as the majority of the body, but if this is the Model Q, it’s awfully close in size to the Model Y.
The alternative is that this is actually the facelifted Tesla Model Y Performance which would also be due to debut before mid-year based on the timeline of the updated Model 3 equivalent.
Either way, Tesla clearly has a new SUV of some description on the way which will no doubt send the infatuated fans wild – heaven help if it is indeed the Model Q…
Here are a few additional images of the camouflaged Model Y from different angles. Lots of interesting theories ... what do you think is going on and why is this so heavily camoflagued? pic.twitter.com/3Ehuds8vCT
