Isuzu Ute Australia is looking to capitalise on its 'fastest-growing one-tonne ute segment' momentum with the introduction of two new D-MAX 4x2 variants. They will also be joined by a 4x2 MU-X SUV.
Sales for the 4x2 D-MAX range have more than doubled over 2014, IUA citing a jump in both fleet and private buyers. Sales YTD September sat at 2382 units for the 4x2, compared with 1147 in 2014.
For the utility, there's now the option of a 4x2 SX Space Cab High-Ride which is currently available from $31,990 drive away. The recommended price is currently $34,300 plus on-roads, making this a substantial saving.
Also available is the 4x2 SX Crew Cab High-Ride, from $36,100 plus on-road costs. Either variant is sold with a five-speed automatic transmission with no manual available.
Opting for the MU-X 4x2 in top-spec LS-T form will set you back $43,900 drive away (recommended retail is $46,700). Also auto-only, the SUV retains three-tonne towing and five-star ANCAP safety rating.
The D-MAX range moves to 25 variants with this move, however a brochure that has surfaced online indicates that Thai-market Isuzus will have the option of a new 1.9-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel option, producing 110kW/350Nm. It is introduced alongside the 3.0-litre four-pot oiler already available in the Australian market.
Slated to replace the Thai-offered 2.5-litre oiler as part of a mid-life cycle update, the downsized unit generates 10 per cent more power (110kW), nine per cent more torque (350Nm) and weighs some 20 per cent less. It's also claimed to be 19 per cent more fuel efficient, although no figure has been released. C02 emissions are listed as 161g/km.
A roof-mounted fin antenna and new decals combine with updated front styling, including lighting and grille design as well as a new bonnet. The rear is lifted by redesigned lamps.
Isuzu Connect World forms part of the revised D-MAX, which allows smartphones to be connected to the utility's infotainment. Leaked brochure images from Thai publication Headlight Mag further suggest a TFT screen and 8.0-inch touch screen would be available.
Information to hand also indicates six-speed transmissions will come on-stream, in manual and automatic form, although whether it's teamed with the new 1.9 or existing 3.0 is yet to be announced.
