Isuzu D-MAX 1.9-litre stop-sale ordered

Fault found with new diesel engine in D-MAX ute; equivalent Mazda BT-50 still on sale – for now

Isuzu Ute Australia (IUA) has issued an immediate stop-sale order for its new 2022 Isuzu D-MAX SX single cab-chassis 4x2 1.9 ute following the discovery of a faulty engine sensor, however the full extent of the fault and the duration of the delivery pause is yet to be determined.

In a statement issued to carsales, an Isuzu spokesperson thanked customers for their patience while the issue is resolved and promised updates would be made as soon as possible.

“IUA has identified an irregularity relating to one of the engine sensors fitted to the 1.9-litre turbo-diesel engine in the D-MAX SX Single Cab Chassis 4x2,” they said.

“As a precaution whilst further information is being gathered and investigated, IUA has decided to temporarily pause the sale and delivery of 1.9-litre engine variants until further notice.

“Please be rest assured that IUA remains committed to prioritising the delivery of vehicle orders and will continue to provide updates as we receive more information on the situation.”

Available in both six-speed manual and six-speed automatic form, the new downsized engine only landed Down Under in January as part of the MY22 line-up and lowered the entry price into the D-MAX portfolio by $2000.

Mazda Australia has yet to issue a similar stop-sale order on 1.9-litre versions of the 2022 Mazda BT-50, which is a twin-under-the-skin with the Isuzu D-MAX and is built in the same factory in Thailand.

A spokesperson said the company has yet to receive any advice from the factory on its equivalent BT-50 models, but we expect a fresh announcement to come from the Japanese brand soon.

Until then, however, 1.9-litre Mazda BT-50 models will be available for purchase and delivery as per normal.
