Jaguar E-PACE range trimmed

Small prestige SUV range has slimmed down, but specification is beefed up

Jaguar has quietly removed from local sale 32 distinct variants in the 2020 model year Jaguar E-PACE range and bumped up prices to match higher equipment levels for the continuing models.

The range rationalisation was foretold by Jaguar Land Rover Australia's former MD, Matthew Wiesner, early last year and follows the release of the trimmed-down 20MY Jaguar XE sedan range earlier this week.

Most of the Jaguar E-PACE engines have been dropped for MY20, with the E-PACE now powered by just the D180 diesel and P250 petrol powerplants. There is no longer an E-PACE variant priced below $50,000.

Now the entry-level model in the range, the Jaguar E-PACE D180 S is positioned at $58,730, close to $2000 more than the price of the MY19 equivalent and nearly $12,000 more than the previous entry-level model, the Jaguar E-PACE P200.

Added equipment that was formerly optional has contributed to the price increase and comprises power tailgate, keyless entry, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, digital radio (DAB+), park assist and rear-cross traffic alert. Previously an option, the Drive Pack is now standard across the range and consists of adaptive cruise control, blind-spot assist and high-speed emergency braking.

Coinciding with the changes to the E-PACE range, the importer has also introduced the Jaguar E-PACE Chequered Flag (pictured) – a limited-volume edition that's based on the specification for the Jaguar E-PACE R-Dynamic S, but with satin dark grey 19-inch alloy wheels, a fully digital instrument cluster, a panoramic glass sunroof with electrically-powered blind and heated front seats.

In Australia the E-PACE is Jaguar's most popular model, and with sales for the year to date sitting at 621 units at the end of July – in a declining market – the small SUV's sales are ahead of the same period in 2018.
