Jaguar Australia has announced a starting price of $140,040 plus on-road costs for the fire-breathing new Jaguar F-PACE SVR, ahead of first local deliveries in the final quarter of this year.
The circa-$140K sees the first Jaguar F-PACE SVR – and the only V8-powered F-PACE – match or undercut its chief rivals.
Although many of them are larger, they include piping-hot large luxury SUVs like the Audi SQ7 ($153,327), BMW X5 M50d ($144,990), Maserati Levante (from $139,990), Mercedes-AMG GLE 43 ($144,511) and Porsche Cayenne S ($155,100).
Meantime, slightly smaller mid-size luxury SUV competitors include the Mercedes-Benz GLC 63 S ($164,900 plus ORCs) and, soon, the Alfa Romeo Stelvio QV, Audi RS Q5 and BMW X3 M.
The Jaguar F-PACE SVR is also almost $100,000 cheaper than JLR’s other mad SUV, the circa-$240K Range Rover Sport SVR ($238.200).
On the flipside, it’s more than $5000 pricier than Jeep’s gob-smacking Grand Cherokee Trackhawk ($134,900) and almost $40,000 more expensive than the current F-PACE range-topper, the 3.0D S AWD ($101,795).
The quickest and fastest production SUV ever to emerge from Jaguar or its Land Rover sister brand was revealed at the recent New York motor show and is the third SVR model to emerge from JLR’s SVO skunkworks following the Rangie SVR and F-TYPE SVR.
Highlighting the global boom in luxury performance SUVs, the Range Rover Velar SVR is expected to be next, but the BMW M3-rivalling XE SVR has reportedly been axed.
Headlining the MY19 F-PACE range, which arrives Down Under around the same time, Jaguar’s second SVR model is powered by JLR’s 404kW/680Nm supercharged 5.0-litre V8.
The result is claimed 0-100km/h acceleration in just 4.3 seconds (0.2sec sooner than the similarly powered Rangie SVR) and a top speed of 283km/h – 3km/h faster than the newly upgraded Rangie SVR.
As we’ve reported, other upgrades include more aggressive bumpers, a vented bonnet, lower body sides and rear lip spoiler, quad exhaust outlets and an SVR-tuned chassis with uprated dampers and front/rear spring rates increased by 30/10 per cent respectively.
There are also staggered-width 21-inch and optional 22-inch forged wheels, a rear electronic active differential, upgraded brakes with 395/396mm front/rear two-piece discs and a lighter variable-valve active exhaust.
Rounding out the Jaguar F-PACE SVR mechanical package are bespoke calibrations for the all-wheel drive system, eight-speed Quickshift automatic transmission, Electric Power Assisted Steering, Adaptive Dynamics, Torque Vectoring and Dynamic Stability Control.
Inside, quilted and SVR-embossed sports seats are fitted, a Sports Shift Selector replaces rotary selector, there’s an SVR steering wheel with aluminium paddle shifters.
Four interior colour options will be offered: Red with Jet, Light Oyster with Jet, Siena Tan with Jet and Jet with Light Oyster stitching.
