Jaguar F-Type gets Brabus treatment

Can the Germans make a British sports car better? They seem to think so...

How does Mercedes-Benz exclusive hot shop Brabus fettle a Jaguar? When it uses its sub-brand Startech, that's how.

The massive German car tuning group has whipped the covers off its new Jaguar F-Type ahead of its Geneva motor show debut, revealing an aggressive take on the highly-desirable British sports car.

Making heavy use of carbon-fibre exterior highlights, the new Startech Jaguar F-Type program's most obvious addition are the huge 21-inch Monostar S forged all wheels.

According to Startech: the "one-piece high-tech wheels stand out from the crowd on account of the concave shape of their centre section, which has a particularly strong visual effect in the case of the extremely wide rear-axle wheels".

Tyre sizes are 255/30 ZR at the front, 305/25 ZR at the rear, which "endeavor to provide maximum traction" says the tuner.

Other updates include carbon-fibre front lip spoiler, side skirts and a rear diffuser that integrates a new technical-look quad exhaust system. Brabus' British-tuning arm has also added carbon-fibre vents on the front guards and bonnet to highlight the F-Type's performance, although at this stage the company has released no information on mechanical tweaks.

That means the F-Type will have to make do with its 3.0-litre V6s and 5.0-litre V8s – all supercharged, naturally – with power spanning 250kW to 404kW.

In Australia the F-Type is priced between $120K and $220K.

As well as the exterior updates Startech can tizzie up the cabin too, talking up its brown and red Nappa leather finishes. The model also offers piano black trim, illuminated sill plates and a diamond stitched headliner.

The cockpit captivates with the extraordinary combination of brown and red leather, and an extravagant upholstery design. The hallmark STARTECH diamond stitching adorns not only the seat surfaces and door panels, but also the entirely leather-trimmed vehicle floor and headliner of the coupe. A subtle yet striking detail of the leather application is the continuous piping surround.

The F-Type centre console was refined by the Startech interior designers with a mirror-polished piano wood inlay. Other types of precious-wood and genuine carbon-fiber inlays with a variety of structures and colours are available alternatively.

Further exclusive ideas for the interior are the scuff plates with backlit Startech logo and the high-quality floor mats with colour-coordinated leather edging.
