Jaguar to kill off supercharged V6
S version of the XE, XF and even F-TYPE faces the chop over introduction of new emissions regulationsJaguar has killed off its supercharged V6 petrol versions of the XE and XF in some European markets, signalling the powerful 280kW/450Nm 3.0-litre could be axed from other markets, including Australia.
Set to delete the same engine from the XJ, F-TYPE and F-PACE SUV, the powerful petrol badged '35t' Down Under could also disappear in our market if production of right-hand drive supercharged V6s is permanently ended at its production facility in the UK.
According to reports, the reason for dropping the supercharged V6 is the adoption of the new mandatory WLTP emission tests that come into effect in Europe from September 1.
It's thought, since the supercharged XE S and XF S models sell in small numbers it wasn't deemed viable to invest the millions necessary to adapt the V6 to make it compliant with the new regs.
In the UK, the supercharged V6 is set to be replaced by the new 220kW version of the car maker's 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder Ingenium engine.
The F-TYPE, meanwhile, might also be granted an exemption from the WLTP since it is sold in low-volumes.
