Jaguar has released a video outlining the fundamental make-up of the supercharged V6 that will power its upcoming F-Type roadster.
The British brand’s all-new compact two-door will be available initially with a new 3.0-litre petrol V6 fitted with a twin-vortex Roots supercharger.
Dubbed ‘3.0 V6 340’ to signify its 340hp (circa-250kW) power output, the entry-level F-Type engine is also expected to be available in higher-output 375hp (280kW) guise.
Jaguar says the forced-induction 340 engine will deliver “smooth refined power” and “instant torque response with greater efficiency”.
Similarly, Jag’s new F-Type will also become available with a supercharged 5.0-litre V8 in two states of tune, with the more powerful blown V8 likely to power a range-topping R version.
Development prototypes of both models have been spotted undergoing testing in Europe, with V6 versions sporting dual exhaust outlets and V8 variants featuring quad tailpipes.
It is unclear at this stage how much power the F-Type’s blown V8 will offer, but Jaguar’s supercharged V8 produces 346kW/575Nm in the XJ, 375kW/625Nm in the XFR, XKR and XJ Supersport, and some 404kW/680Nm in the XKR-S.
The latter could be fitted to a range-topping F-Type R-S, which would rival Porsche’s upcoming new 911 GT3.
Jaguar released ‘spy’ shots of the new F-Type in April (pictured) and the all-new compact convertible is due on sale here in mid-2013, followed soon after by a coupe derivative.
