UPDATED 27/08/3:30pm: Jaguar Australia has advised it won't import the Jaguar XF Black, which is based on the R-Dynamic S variant, not the higher-spec R-Dynamic HSE P300 AWD grade that forms the single-variant Jaguar XF range Down Under.
Jaguar says it will continue to offer the highest specification XF in Australia, where 22MY Jaguar XF and XE pricing and equipment details will be announced soon.
Apart from the F-TYPE sports car, they will be the only two traditional passenger cars remaining in Jaguar's Australian range, following the formal discontinuation of the XJ limousine recently. Jaguar sold its last XJ locally in 2019 and the all-electric XJ that had been due for launch around now was cancelled as part of the British car-maker's February announcement that it will go all-electric by 2025.
ORIGINAL ARTICLE PUBLISHED 27/08/2021 3:15am: Jaguar has expanded its R-Dynamic Black model grade to its Jaguar XF mid-size sedan, introducing sporty black styling features and extra equipment.
Already available on the smaller BMW 3 Series-rivalling XE, the 2021 Jaguar XF R-Dynamic Black gets gloss black detailing around the front grille, fender vents, badging and window surrounds in place of the usual chrome.
Black mirror caps, new sill trims and 19-inch wheels with red callipers have also been introduced.
Other new standard equipment (also now on the Jaguar XE version too) includes privacy glass and a panoramic sunroof.
Inside, the darkened theme continues with a new satin charcoal ash wood veneer.
As seen on the recent Jaguar F-PACE R-Dynamic Black, the XF version also features a Premium Cabin Lighting tech that provides 30 different lighting colours – three times as many as the standard system.
In markets like the UK, the R-Dynamic Black is combined with the lower-powered 2.0-litre four-cylinder Ingenium petrol and diesel powertrains we miss out on in Australia, which suggests the new trim could be fitted to the 221kW P300 2.0-litre turbo we get on the XF.
As well as the new trim, the R-Dynamic Black arrives with Jaguar's latest Pivi Pro infotainment system that, thanks to over-the-air updates, will soon introduce wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Other new tech includes Active Noise Cancellation that cuts out low-frequency sounds, such as tyre roar. Both the XE and the XF have also been updated with a new cabin air ionisation system that improves air quality within by removing ultra-fine airborne particles and allergens..
