Jeep developing Hellcat-powered Range Rover rival

Leaked report suggests large Grand Wagoneer to come with option of 536kW supercharged V8

Jeep's forthcoming Wagoneer SUV will come equipped with the same mighty supercharged 6.2-litre V8 as the Challenger SRT Hellcat, according to new leaked documents.

According to US mag,

, an internal document from German powertrain supplier ZF confirms Jeep is developing a Grand Wagoneer Trackhawk model that will produce an incredible 536kW.

The report also shows the large SUV, codenamed internally 'WS', will use ZF's eight-speed automatic (ZF-8HP95X), that's specially developed for high-torque applications.

Following the leaking of the document an FCA spokesman, speaking to the US mag, denied knowledge of any plans for a Hellcat-powered Grand Wagoneer Trackhawk.

Road & Track cautions that the documents, which date back to 2017, could relate to an abandoned prototype or even Jeep's already-released Grand Cherokee Trackhawk.

If built, the three-row seven-seat Hellcat-powered SUV could provide an entertaining alternative to cars like the Mercedes-AMG GLS 63, although the Jeep will carry more than 100kW advantage over its German rival.

Unfortunately, if the Grand Wagoneer Trackhawk does come to fruition it's not certain the US car-maker will engineer it for right-hand drive which could rule out the wild Range Rover rival for the Australian market.
