Jeep Compass debuts in Brazil
New compact SUV to provide much needed CPR for off-road brandThis is the vehicle that should provide much needed CPR for the Jeep brand Down Under. Dubbed Compass Patriot Replacement (CPR) to date, the new small SUV can officially be shown and named for the first time now it has been unveiled.
The sheets were pulled off the vehicle at FCA’s Jeep Assembly Plant in Goiana, Pernambuco, Brazil overnight. The South American country is one of what are expected to be up to four production locations for the global model.
Jeep has retained the Compass badge for the vehicle. It’s not clear whether it will apply the Patriot badge to another vehicle in the future.
Jeep says the new Compass will be produced with “17 fuel-efficient powertrain options for consumers in more than 100 countries around the world”.
“The all-new Jeep Compass expands the brand’s global reach with an unmatched combination of attributes that includes legendary and best-in-class 4x4 off-road capability, advanced fuel-efficient powertrains, premium and authentic Jeep design, superior on-road driving dynamics, open-air freedom, and a host of safety and advanced technology offerings,” the company stated.
The new Compass very clearly leverages the styling of its big brother, Grand Cherokee. It will sell into arguably Australia’s hottest new car segment to compete against the likes of Mazda’s CX-5 and Hyundai Tucson.
Jeep says the new vehicle will be “the most capable compact SUV ever”.
Although, the new Compass is not likely to arrive Down Under until “late 2017”, look out for motoring.com.au’s exclusive first drive later this week.
