The wraps have come of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler interior, revealing a modern take on the classic offroader.
Coming to Australia in late 2018, the new model will be joined by the Jeep Scrambler during 2019. The latter is expected to be a hit in Australia, and will likely get this same interior design.
Unlike the exterior design, which is like playing a game of 'spot the difference' with its predecessor, the interior of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler has a thoroughly modern aesthetic.
Two LCD screens – one for the trip computer in the instrument cluster, the other in the dashboard for infotainment – have been neatly integrated, as are the new controls.
All the buttons and dials feature an upmarket appearance and at the bottom of the central control panel there are some cool toggle switches, one of which adjusts the 4WD mode.
The new-generation Jeep Wrangler "freedom" machine's cabin shows off a blend of ruggedness and technology, with a number of classic design cues such as the round air vents and speedo/tacho dials mixed with neat steering wheel buttons and red metallic highlights.
It retains all the grab handles for when things get a bit rough and tumble, and this particular model features lots of colour-coded red-stitching and even a fold-down windscreen, suggesting it's a top-of-the-line model.
Naturally it also features a dual-range transfer case too, for hard-core off-roading.
Jeep reckons the new Wrangler's cabin "combines authentic styling, precision craftsmanship and high-quality materials" that will deliver "improved versatility and comfort for drivers and passengers".
What else do we know about the Wrangler? It'll be powered by a range of new engines, including a turbo-petrol 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine dubbed "Hurricane". The Pentastar V6 will return and there'll be a 3.0-litre turbo-diesel for those who want lots of low-end grunt.
An eight-speed automatic transmission will be on the cards, as will a six-speed manual gearbox, as seen in these photos.
The 2018 Jeep Wrangler's tag-line is the "most capable SUV ever" which is, well, a massive claim. We'll know more in late November when it's officially launched at the 2017 Los Angeles motor show.
