Just 130 examples of the special-edition 2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Willys will be offered in Australia, tapping into the aura that still surrounds the legendary Willys Overland CJ-3A.
Priced from $61,941 plus on-road costs and arriving in dealerships during April, the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Willys is said to pay homage to the “father of recreational vehicles” with a variety of heritage-inspired exterior design elements and other spec upgrades.
These include a military-styled ‘WILLYS’ decal stencilled onto the bonnet and a ‘4 WHEEL DRIVE’ decal on the rear swing gate, in addition to a gloss-black exterior grille and 17-inch five-spoke MOAB black-painted alloy wheels.
Boosting its off-road capability is standard fitment of a Rubicon-spec Dana M220 rear axle, combined with a standard anti-spin rear differential.
Jeep says these upgrades were carried out in a similar fashion to the original Willys Overland CJ-3A stepping up from its CJ-2A predecessor.
Inside, there’s a silver-platinum instrument mid-panel and all-weather slush mats.
The 2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Willys is based on the Wrangler Night Eagle model, which is priced from $60,950 plus ORCs.
It sits below the Unlimited Overland (from $65,950) and Unlimited Rubicon (from $67,450).
The Willys edition is available in four exterior paint colours: Bright White, Black, Sting Grey and Sarge Green, the latter two costing an extra $745.
As per all other Wranglers, the limited-run Willys uses a 209kW 3.6-litre V6 petrol engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
“The Jeep Willys Overland CJ-3A is an off-road icon and we’re excited to offer a modern model to the market that features an array of 4x4 upgrades and unique styling that honours the Jeep heritage,” said Jeep Australia’s director of brand and product strategy Guillaume Drelon.
“Jeep owners have been able to experience the adventure, open-air freedom and off-road capability that the Willys has had to offer since 1948, and this is no different in 2021.”
