Sales of electrified vehicles are predicted to skyrocket this year, with electrified utes like the BYD Shark 6 tipped to sell in major numbers, according to JET Charge.
As part of its latest market predictions, the Australian EV charging solutions company also says 50 per cent of new car sales by 2030 will be electric, citing ‘major growth’ in terms of EV adoption within the next five years.

Kristian Handberg, the head of future business at JET Charge, says EV sales will grow to account for 11 per cent (or 130,000 units) of new car sales. In 2024, EVs accounted for 7.4 per cent of Australian new vehicle sales, up from 7.2 per cent in 2023.
A good portion of the predicted boost in EV sales will come from electrified ute sales, according to Handberg, who says 12,000 are predicted to move off showroom floors this year thanks to new (and inbound) additions like the BYD Shark 6, LDV Terron 9, and Geely Riddara RD6.
In good news for budget-conscious buyers, electric vehicles will become more affordable than ever, with a mainstream price point of $30,000 thanks to smaller EVs like the BYD Dolphin (from $29,990), MG4 (from $37,990), and GMW Ora (from $35,990), as well as the incoming Leapmotor T03.

Handberg says while the small passenger segment will account for 17,000 sales in 2025, another 10 new electric mid-size SUVs could arrive by December to increase buyer choice. However, the Tesla Model Y will ultimately remain at the top, he says – thanks in part to a major facelift – while the BYD Sealion 6 PHEV and Sealion 7 EV will also sell in strong numbers.
The medium SUV segment is the most popular in Oz and the JET Charge official says 21.7 per cent of those sold in 2025 will be EVs, partly thanks to the new NVES scheme.
