Joondalup Festival of Motoring locked in for late October

Modern, exotic, modified, competition, classic and vintage cars will flood new Perth auto show this year

An all-new motor show is coming to Perth this year, with organisers of the inaugural Joondalup Festival of Motoring locking in an October 29-30 event date.

Free for the public to attend, the two-day event will see the Joondalup CBD transformed into a western Mecca for all things motoring including static, interactive and dynamic displays, plus a healthy dose of motorsport.

Each day will feature a different program of events and displays, with the Saturday comprising of a Coffee and Cars show and shine, art displays, photography activities and even an Autokhana event.

According to festival director Justin Hunt, things will be stepped up on the Sunday when the CBD streets are turned into a 2.5km sprint circuit, circumnavigated by five regionally-themed automotive precincts: Route 66 (US), Old Blighty (UK), the Continent (Europe), the Orient (Asia) and of course the Land Down Under.

“Everyone wants to know how and when they can register,” he said. “We love the enthusiasm out there for this event!

“We can let everyone know that we’re aiming for registrations to open on our website for display vehicles in mid-June, while Sprint entries will open in July.

“Our vision is for this event to be Perth’s biggest celebration of car culture and a major drawcard for the Joondalup area.”

Hunt is expecting around 150 entrants for the sprint event, which will effectively coincide with the launch of the local 2022/23 Targa Rally Sprint Series the following Thursday.

Run in collaboration with the City of Joondalup, mayor Albert Jacob said the event had the potential to become an icon on the local motoring calendar and re-establish Joondalup’s “historic links to motorsport”.

“All roads will lead to Joondalup in October as car lovers and motoring enthusiasts from around Perth and beyond converge on our City Centre for this unique motorsport event, which will only enhance our City’s reputation as the ‘events capital’ of the northern metropolitan region,” he said.

“Even if you are not a motoring fan, there will be plenty of free family-friendly fun and entertainment on offer over the two days, and we expect the flow-on effect for local businesses to be strong for those that chose to capitalise on this event.

“Come October, car lovers are going to be in heaven and our City centre will literally be buzzing with cars of all makes, models and eras taking turns around the track and on display.”
