Kahn has released two pictures of its new two-seat hybrid rival for the Caterham 7.
Called the Speed 7, it’s not yet known clear what will power the new circuit racer but Yorkshire-based company owner Afzal Kahn has said it will be offered with an advanced hybrid powertrain and possibly be based on a Caterham 7 chassis.
If made, Kahn has also suggested that the Speed 7 will cost around $150,000.
Speaking on the release of the two renderings, Kahn said: “Speed 7 is something that I’ve had in my head for a couple of years now, but I think the time is right now to bring it to fruition. We know how to finish and trim a car so it’s like a jewel -- but we want other specialised British engineering firms who have experience of a ground-up build and homologation process to get involved with us.”
Kahn says a concept could be revealed at next year’s Geneva motor show and that he’s already confident there’s a market for it boasting that he could sell “100 of them tomorrow”.
“There’s huge demand and the track day customers that I spoke to were very enthusiastic about the idea of a hybrid.”
Kahn also added that early on the Speed 7 could be offered with a small petrol while the hybrid-version is being developed.
The owner of the aftermarket tuning company, which made its name offering styling kits of Range Rovers, says that finding the money to push the Speed 7 into production won’t be an issue.
“We don’t need financial help with the project; we want the technical co-operation.”
