Ken Block's 682kW Hoonitruck is cool

Human smoke machine Ken Block shows berserk 1977 Ford F-150 pick-up truck at SEMA in Las Vegas

Just when you thought the 1965 Ford Mustang Hoonicorn couldn’t be topped, Ken Block's Hoonitruck performance an automotive mic drop.

Making its public debut at the 2018 Specialty Equipment Market Association expo, or SEMA, in Las Vegas this week, the insane 1977 Ford F-150 pick-up truck shows that utes are still very much on trend.

Especially fire-belching, tyre-frying beasts with flared wheel arches and industrial rear wings.

This is not your garden variety 1977 Ford F-150 ute

The custom-built Hoonitruck ditches the Hoonicorn's V8 for a more modern 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6, a development of the engine that currently propels vehicles such as the Ford GT supercar and Ford F-150 Raptor… Only this time the engine has been dialed up to face-melting volume.

Pumping out an astonishing 682kW (914hp) and 950Nm of torque from its heavily fettled twin-turbo V6, Ken Block says his latest toy has been two years in the making.

"I'm beyond pleased with how it turned out, it's simply one of the most badass and unique vehicles I've seen in a long time and I think it compliments my Hoonicorn perfectly."

The 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 has a little Roush Yates added goodness

Power is sent to all four wheels via a Sedev six-speed gearbox and the Hoonitruck rides on 20-inch alloy wheels accentuated by a slammed, ground-hugging stance courtesy of a custom fabricated suspension setup that has more in common with a rally car than a ute.

The bodywork that covers this mechanical splendor is made from hand-hammered military-grade aluminium panels but the smaller touches have made it in there too. It features a reversing camera and even a tow ball should you wish to hitch up a trailer for a little circle work.

When the 10th Gymkhana video drops on December 7, 2018, it will signal 10 years since Ken Block first blitzed his way around an airfield, creating a viral video that put his name on the map.

With almost 700kW and 1000Nm towing is an option

Back then Block was sponsored by Subaru and the camera work wasn't quite as crisp and sharp, but you can be sure this latest berserker will create plenty of tyre smoke when it hits YouTube soon.

"It's also crazy to be throwing something around that's this size when doing Gymkhana-style driving," said Block.

"But it looks absolutely wild on camera, and that was our goal from the start. I can't wait for the fans to be able to see it in action, I think they're gonna love it!"

The high-octane Gymkhana Ten will launch on Amazon Prime from December 7 followed by its YouTube debut global release on December 17th.
