Whether you’re on a road trip, driving home from work or just couldn’t be bothered to leave the comfort of your car to collect dinner, the drive-thru has been a staple of Aussie fast food meal decisions for decades. And this latest meal delivery concept from the Colonel has a hint of The Jetsons about it.
So how is this different from rocking up to your local 11 herbs and spices establishment?
You’ll be able to order and pay for your meal on the KFC App or website any time before arriving at the drive-thru only restaurant. That means no waiting for the people in front to decide whether they want the popcorn chicken, Zinger burger or just a cup of water. Finally!
When you arrive at the drive-thru and approach the order zone, tap your four-digit code from your app on to the touchscreen, wait for the boom gates to open and off you go to the pick-up window. Then BAM, chicken and chips! And don’t worry, we’ve been assured that the food is prepared by real people and not robots, so they haven’t gone full The Jetsons on us.
There are five-lanes at the drive-thru with two traditional order lanes if you decided to just ‘wing it’ for some food and didn’t pre-order on the app.
Fun fact, Australians made 68 million online food orders in the last year, which equates to 7,000 orders every hour!
This KFC drive-thru only restaurant is currently just a concept store but if it proves to be 'finger lickin' good' with customers, the concept could be spreading its wings across the country.
