KG Mobility has teased an all-new one-tonne ute that will replace the brand’s existing Musso ute and rival the likes of the Toyota HiLux and Ford Ranger. The new mid-size pick-up will sell alongside the inbound Musso EV ute and be offered with both turbo-diesel and hybrid power, for the first time.
KGM has released its first video teaser of its inbound mid-size dual-cab ute that is set to be sold under the Korean brand’s new Musso sub-brand when it launches next year.
Aimed squarely at the Ford Ranger, Toyota HiLux and more recent Kia Tasman, KGM has yet to name its new ute but it looks like it will replace the current Musso and will sell alongside the all-new battery-electric Musso ute.
Developed under the Q300 codename, the new Musso ute follows the trend of pinching design cues from full-size American pick-ups like the Ford F-150, with the KGM sporting a Jeep-like five-slot front grille and a pair of large L-shaped LED headlamps that are linked by a full-width LED light bar.
A tough-looking front bumper and steel bash-plate add to the rugged appeal, while the standard roof rails will appeal to both lifestyle and tradie owners.
At the rear, a pair of slim vertical LED lamps frame a rear tailgate that sports KGM lettering.
No pictures have been released of the cabin but within it is thought to bring seating for five, with a large infotainment and digital instrument cluster standard across the range.
Set to be built on the same ladder-frame chassis as the Rexton SUV, there's no details yet concerning the new hybrid version and whether or not the Korean brand will roll out its next-gen plug-in tech.
With the second-gen Musso knocking on the door of being eight years old, its all-new replacement can't arrive soon enough.
With keen pricing, handsome rugged looks and an advanced plug-in hybrid powertrain, along with the new Musso EV, KGM has all it needs to finally challenge the segment heavyweights.
