Luc Donckerwolke, who dramatically quit his job as Bentley’s design boss earlier this month, has confirmed our report last week that he will take up the “offer of a lifetime” and head up Kia and Hyundai’s as their global design chief.
Donckerwolke, 49, is one of the world’s most respected car designers and, during his 23-year career with the Volkswagen Group, designed the likes of the Audi R8 Le Mans, Lamborghini Murcielago and Lamborghini Gallardo.
He will replace Peter Schreyer, 63, who is also a VW veteran and designed the original Audi TT, when he retires in two years.
Like Srheyer, Donckerwolke’s task will be to differentiate both brands as the Korean giant aims to become the world’s biggest car-maker.
