The Kia EV6 has been voted 2022 European Car of the Year, marking the first time Kia has received the prestigious accolade.
Scoring 279 points, the all-new, all-electric Kia crossover outmuscled the recently-launched Renault Megane E-Tech Electric (265 points) and the fellow battery-powered Hyundai IONIQ 5 (261 points) that finished in third.
Other cars shortlisted for the top prize by a panel of European journalists included the Peugeot 308 (191), Skoda Enyaq (185), the Ford Mustang Mach-E (150) and the Cupra Born (144).
The 2022 Kia EV6 is only the third all-electric car to take victory in ECOTY, following in the tyre tracks of the 2011 Nissan LEAF and the Jaguar I-PACE (2019).
This year the jury consisted of 59 journalists from 22 countries, down from the normal 61 from 23 after the Russian judges were suspended.
First introduced back in 1964, the first car ever to win the European Car of the Year was the Rover 2000 sedan.
