After a long tease, the new Kia large sedan has finally been revealed in its native land. Called the K7 domestically and Cadenza for the international market, the new four-door continues the brands strong recent offerings.
That's the good news.
The bad news is it's unlikely we'll ever see the Cadenza in Australia, despite our last report suggesting the UK market was interested in the car formerly known as the 'VG'. According to Kia Australia spokesman Jonathan Fletcher, there are no plans to put the Cadenza into right-hand drive production.
"At this stage it's only going to be built in left-hand drive and there are no plans for right-hand drive," Fletcher said. "Until that position changes we don't really have any options."
Kia head office gave away no technical details of the Cadenza with the images but based on the pictures the car certainly doesn't look out of place amongst its large car rivals. The images show the Cadenza uses the company's latest design themes, including the 'dog bone' grille.
Although pleased with the Cadenza, Fletcher questioned the value for Kia to try and enter the large car market should the car eventually be offered in right-hand drive.
"Australia already has a number of large cars out there that have a lot of profile and marketshare," he said.
But he left the door open, just in case.
"If it were to be made available to us we would give it consideration," Fletcher said.
The Cadenza/K7 is expected to make its public debut in December when it is launched in the Middle East markets.
