Kia has officially rebranded for 2021, revealing its new logo in a record-breaking fireworks display that involved 330 pyrodromes in the skies above Incheon in South Korea.
The new redesigned 'K?' badge, first previewed by the Kia Imagine concept that was unveiled back in 2019 at the Geneva motor show, is part of a grand plan by the Korean car-maker to be considered both as being more aspirational by buyers while at the same time being a leader in new technology.
Under the new logo, and the ambitious 'Plan S' restructuring strategy that was revealed back in 2020, Kia will launch 11 different full pure-electric vehicles by 2025.
Replacing the old familiar oval logo, the new badge is also claimed to conjure up thoughts of "symmetry and rhythm", says Kia.
Another big change is dropping of the former 'The Power to Surprise' slogan, replacing it with a 'Movement that Inspires' motto.
"Kia’s new logo represents the company’s commitment to becoming an icon for change and innovation," said Kia’s president and CEO, Ho Sung Song.
As well as launching the new logo and slogan, Kia says on January 15 it will release yet another video to reveal how its new ethos will apply directly to future models.
It's not known if that will involve the launch of a new model or another PR stunt.
Helping underpin its upcoming family of electric vehicles, and supporting its claim as a technological pioneer, is the recent launch of the car-maker's new E-GMP architecture that has been specially created for battery-powered cars.
The first E-GMP vehicle will launch in 2021, and could be the subject of the January 2021 event.
Set to be a sleek coupe-SUV, the flagship electric Kia could be named the 'CV'.
Rumoured to cover up to 500km between top-ups, the Korean brand's new halo car will offer a sub-20-minute recharge time and 0-100km/h acceleration in less than 3.0 seconds.
Croatian hypercar marque Rimac has been instrumental in the new EV's development, which is set to feature a design inspired by the 2019 Imagine concept.
