A new design sketch of the Kia XCeed has been released ahead of its unveiling on March 5 at the 2019 Geneva motor show.
Created to slot into the Kia line up just below the Sportage, the jacked-up Kia XCeed is based on the Kia Ceed Sportwagon available in Europe.
Featuring the usual jacked-up ride height, black protective plastic cladding around the wheel arches and a silver rear bash-plate, the small sub-Sportage Kia XCeed is on Kia Australia's most-wanted list.
Created to rival cars like the Ford Focus Active and more overt SUVs like Volkswagen's T-Roc, the Kia XCeed is expected to be front-drive only.
Sharing a platform with the Hyundai i30 and the Elantra, the XCeed (if it ventures Down Under) is expected to come with the same 150kW/265Nm turbocharged 1.6-litre and the base 112kW/192Nm 2.0-litre.
It may also be offered with the compact turbocharged 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol from the peppy Picanto GT.
In Europe, a plug-in hybrid is also reportedly on the cards.
Inside, the XCeed has been spotted testing with a new 12.3-inch virtual cockpit that's due to be introduced shortly to other Kia models in the line-up.
There's no word yet if the Kia XCeed is officially confirmed for Australia but if a decision is made soon the cheapest small SUV Kia makes could arrive in this market before the end of this year or early 2020.
Back in 2013, Kia Australia imported a small batch of the European Kia Pro_cee'd GT Down Under but it received a lukewarm reception by buyers and was quietly disappeared from showrooms two years later after selling just 746 cars.
