Promoters for the Australian Safari, which returns after a two-year absence, are holding information nights as part of the event's 're-launch'. The presentations will take place in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne this month and include an introduction to the logistical and technical elements of the 5000km-plus offroad challenge. Event directors will also be available to assist with queries.
The 20th anniversary of the Australian Safari, scheduled for August 24, will be held for the first time in Western Australia. The tough outback course takes in the Kimberly region and surroundings of Kununurra, and WA's regional centres including Fitzroy Crossing, Broome, Port Hedland, Newman, Meekatharra, Leonara, Kalgoorlie and York before culminating in Perth on September 1.
Managing Director of event organiser Octagon, Sean Nicholls, says that as well as great support from local competitors he expects the 2007 event will boast entries from many international two and four-wheel contenders eager for the event's new course in WA. "We spent the past two years searching for the right location to host the 20th anniversary edition of the Australian Safari," he says. "One location stood out above the rest and that was Western Australia."
The Australian Safari information nights will commence at 7pm sharp and conclude at approximately 9pm. See date and location details, below.
