Koenigsegg Jesko and Gemera make Australian debuts

Just three Jesko hypercars and up to 15 Gemera GTs could grace Aussie roads

Two of the most insane Koenigsegg models ever to appear have made their Australian debuts, and a select number of both the Koenigsegg Jesko hypercar and the four-seat Koenigsegg Gemera ‘hyper GT’ will eventually hit local roads.

The ballistic Swedish super-sportscars will be available through Sullivan Kerr, a prestige automotive retailer in Melbourne that will set up a dedicated service centre where Australian-delivered cars can be maintained.

Two variants of the Jesko will actually be offered locally – the Attack and Absolut – while the Gemera will only be available in a single specification.

carsales understands just three Jesko build slots have been allocated for Australia and all of them have been spoken for (although we’re told “nothing is impossible”), despite the €2.35 million ($A3.51m) and €3.1 million ($A4.64m) price tags for the Attack and Absolut respectively – plus on-road costs and options.

One glance at the Absolut’s spec sheet is enough to justify its mammoth asking price; drive comes from a twin-turbo 5.1-litre V8 churning out up to 1195kW/1500Nm when run on E85, and all of that fury is channelled to the rear wheels via a nine-speed multi-clutch transmission and limited-slip differential.

Built almost exclusively from carbon-fibre, the Jesko Absolut rolls on staggered (20-inch front, 21-inch rear) forged alloy wheels suspended by a double-wishbone set-up both front and rear.

With a kerb weight of less than 1400kg, the Absolut is one of the fastest and most potent hypercars ever developed. Though official performance figures are yet to be published, it’s safe to assume it will shade pretty much everything.

Inside the cabin is a custom-spec leather or Alcantara interior with a decent sized infotainment system sporting Apple CarPlay as well as a digital owner’s manual. Other niceties include a G sensor, climate control, proximity protection system for automated door openings and a ‘bird’s eye’ parking assist system.

By contrast, the Koenigsegg Gemera hybrid GT will cost ‘just’ €1.6 million (A$2.5m) plus ORCs and is powered by a camshaftless 2.0-litre turbo-petrol three-cylinder powertrain supplemented by three electric motors, pumping out a combined 1268kW/3500Nm.

That results in an equally staggering 1.9sec 0-100km/h acceleration time, 400km/h-plus top speed and 50km EV range at up to 300km/h for the 1995kg two-door four-seater, which also incorporates all-wheel drive and all-wheel steering.

In terms of build slots, carsales understands 15 are still available out of a global production run of 300 units.

Standard equipment highlights on the Gemera include a full carbon monocoque and body, custom leather or Alcantara interior, heated seats, three-zone climate control, 11-speaker sound system, advanced infotainment system with smartphone mirroring, digital owner’s manual and bird’s eye park assist system, among other things.

At this stage first Gemera deliveries are slated to take place late next year and in early 2024, while the three already-sold Jeskos will arrive here from the second half of next year.
