KTM has revealed the 600hp sports car its plans to eventually enter into the GT2 racing series.
Developed alongside Reiter Engineering, the KTM X-BOW GTX is powered by a familiar 2.5-litre five-cylinder Audi engine and weighs in at just 1000kg, thanks to a carbon monocoque chassis.
There are also plans for KTM to join Porsche and Audi in the GT2 series, according to Hans Reiter from the engineering company.
“The first 20 cars will be available this year. Subject to the final homologation by the SRO, it then could be entered in all GT2 racing series,” he said.
KTM is said to be planning a one-make Cup series with the new model from 2021 and it should also be eligible to compete in various GT series, said Reiter.
The Austrian company is responsible for the KTM X-BOW GT4, the reigning champion of the ADAC GT4 Germany.
KTM board member Hubert Trunkenpolz said the manufacturer is the first to combine a homologated monocoque with a homologated GT cage, and, on request, a homologated advanced seat.
“Following the worldwide success of the KTM X-BOW GT4, we are now taking the next step with our new racing car, and we will soon be competing in a higher class of racing,” says Trunkenpolz.
Further details including specifications and pricing will be revealed when the model is unveiled later this year.
